I Who Have Never Known Men- Jacqueline Harpman
- Indie art house film
- A24
- Very haunting, muted colors, lingering shots of landscapes, chambers, and rooms. The emotion more covered through the expressions rather than dialogue.
- Unknown indie actors aged 17-mid twenties
The Memory Police- Yoko Ogawa
- Netflix original film
- Very eerie and dreamlike.
- Needs to stand out visually as a the book centers around memories and objects disappearing around the island.
- Needs to convey that sense of loss without needing to use dialogue.
- Cocteau twins need to be in the soundtrack
The Secret History- Donna Tartt
- It is such a good pick for an HBO Max Limited Series
- Very fall like, dark, and moody.
- Soundtrack should consist of classical music that has a wide range of tones.
- A lot of good Radiohead songs that fit the vibe of this book.
- One of the movies that requires a really great ensemble with good chemistry.
The Midnight Library- Matt Haig
- Netflix Original FIlm
- Very distinct colors.
- Lighting and shadowing should correlate with the mood of NOra at the time.
- Should be very visually appealing
- Beach House songs could definitely with a lot of the moody / sad aspects of the book.
The Naturals Series- Jennifer Lynn Barnes
- Disney+ (one season per book)
- Very bingeable
- I like to think it would give Riverdale Season 1 and Criminal Minds.
- Should really focus on character depth and character connection to cases. Each character is so unique in their own way and they each contribute so differently to the story, that it needs to have an emphasis on that.
- I think a lot of artists could be used for this series, but to attract teens we need to use artists that are relevant to what people are listening to. For the party scenes or the fun scenes, I’m thinking maybe Asap Rocky (who I love) or Drake. For more of the sad scenes, I feel like Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Clairo, Beabadoobe, and so much more.
Keeper of the Lost Cities Series- Shannon Messenger
- This is my childhood book series. I need this!!
- Obviously multi-season.
- Needs to stay true to the series. There can’t be any switch ups, it needs to stay true to the series.
- Needs very good CGI design as all of the cities have their own culture and architecture.
- Good costume design
- I think the score should kind of fit the score of Harry Potter. It should very heavy, like the song “O’Children”
The Do Over- Lynn Painter
- I yearn for good romance movies and if this movie is done right, I genuinely think it could do so well. In my opinion, I don’t think it should be a series, because a good amount of it can be condensed.
- It needs to have a good romcom vibe, but there a lot of emotional aspects to it that need to be balanced.
- Theatrical release please
- Needs to be good chemistry
- Could be good for Hulu too
The Way I Used to Be- Amber Smith
- Limited series for sure, the book covers a lot of details over a lot of years.
- There’s a lot of traumatic events that happen. I feel like a lot of modern movies with trauma stories tend to get glamorized.
- Lead actress needs to have a lot of nuance.
- Blood orange soundtrack…I beg.
- Phoebe Bridgers for sure. I also think Radiohead and Deftones.
The Silent Patient- Alex Michaelides
- I so see this as a Netflix movie.
- Should very careful with pacing so that it’s not obvious for non book readers.
- The movie should focus more on expressions than dialogue, as Alicia is silent. Actress should be able to act with eyes.
- Anya Taylor-Joy and Andrew Garfield please!
